Accessibility Statement
Last updated 26 July 2026.
This is an honest snapshot, not a claim of compliance.AbleAbode exists to serve NDIS participants — many of whom rely on assistive technology — so we'd rather tell you plainly where we actually stand than describe an aspiration as if it were already true.
Where we are today
A full accessibility audit against WCAG 2.2 AA has not yet been carried out. It's planned as a dedicated piece of work before AbleAbode is publicly launched, rather than something retrofitted afterward. What follows is what's already in place, and what we know still needs work.
What's already in place
- Forms use real HTML labels and native inputs, selects and textareas throughout — not custom controls that assistive technology has to guess at.
- Form fields show a visible focus state when navigated to by keyboard.
- The site is built with plain, semantic HTML (proper heading levels, real buttons and links) rather than generic clickable elements.
- Toggle-style controls (like the favourite/save button) carry an accessible label describing what they do, not just an icon.
Known gaps
These are specific, known issues — not a hedge:
- Listing photos currently have no descriptive alternative text— a screen reader user browsing listings can't yet get a sense of what a home looks like from its photos.
- Colour contrast has not been formally checkedagainst WCAG's AA thresholds anywhere on the site.
- The drag-to-reorder photo tool(in the provider dashboard) hasn't been tested for keyboard-only or screen-reader use.
- The interactive map viewon search results is built on Google's Maps widget; the custom info windows it shows haven't specifically been tested with a screen reader.
- Beyond form fields, most of the site doesn't yet have a distinct, consistent focus indicator for keyboard navigation.
Feedback
If something on AbleAbode doesn't work with the assistive technology you use, we want to know — please email hello@ableabode.com.au with what you were trying to do and what happened. Reports like this directly shape what gets fixed first.
